The foundation of success at HomeTeam is undoubtedly our company culture. But, what’s so special about it?

We interviewed HomeTeam President Brady Camp for his perspective on our culture and core values, and the importance of sharing them with others.

Q. What differentiates HomeTeam’s culture from other companies?

A. First and foremost, we’re a people company that happens to do pest control. At HomeTeam, you’re not treated as just a number, but as a person. Many companies talk the talk, but they don’t necessarily walk the walk when it comes to taking care of their employees. I can confidently say we’ve created an environment where our people are put first.

Being People Focused is a huge part of our culture, and it’s one of our core values. In fact, every month I have a Zoom call with our newly hired pest control professionals to welcome them and express how excited we are that they’re here. I emphasize from day one that they have a voice, and that voice is valued.

Transparency is another one of our core values, and we are committed to honest communication. In short, we deeply care about what our people have to say. I ask the question, “How does this affect our employees?” before I ask, “How does this affect our customers?”, because I know that if I take care of our team members, they’ll take care of the rest.

Another thing that sets us apart is that we aren’t big on our titles. Every role at this company is so important for us to be successful, whether you are a service technician or a regional vice president. We need everybody. We understand our titles and what our roles are, but in terms of what’s important, every job is crucial to our success.

Q. As president, which core value is most important to you and why?

A. We spent thousands of hours holding town halls and working with our team members to narrow down the six words that really sum up HomeTeam: People Focused, Teamwork, Continuous Improvement, Transparency, Commitment to Serving Others, and Fun. Not to brag, but I think we’re really good at applying these core values and making sure that they’re actionable not only within work life, but also life outside the company.

My favorite core value is Commitment to Serving Others. It’s very broad in its reach, and brings up a lot of important questions: How do I serve my family? How do I serve my customers? And, most importantly, how do I serve strangers?

I believe that little acts of kindness make a big difference, and our Servant Heart Good Works program really highlights this. This year, we asked each branch what they wanted to do to give back to their communities, and I was really impressed watching those plans come to life. Our people are so engaged, and they always rise to the occasion in different ways. Whether it’s a food drive for the North Texas Food Bank, volunteering for the Red Cross, or simply helping a local community soup kitchen, we step up.

Q. What inspired you to create the Life @ HomeTeam video program on our Instagram channel?

A. Our team members are proud to be a part of an organization like this, and now they have an opportunity to share our culture with the world in their own words. I want them to tell their unique stories and share their perspectives, especially with those considering a career with us.

I can talk about our culture all I want, but I wondered what it would be like to have the employees talk about our culture. I thought that we needed to get our message out to a broader audience and express what it’s like here and why people would want to come work with us.

Q. What makes HomeTeam a great place to work?

 A. Aside from our culture, I think another thing that makes us a great place to work is job security. We’ve been through recessions and tighter times before, and we’ve never had a year where we didn’t grow as a company. As long as we do a great job, we’re about as recession-proof as you can get. At HomeTeam, we create our own job security with the good work that we do. We’ve never had layoffs.

Our opportunities for growth also make HomeTeam an ideal company to work for. I always ask myself and have my managers ask themselves: How can I set up my people to win? What can I do to increase engagement and excitement? How can we help develop our people and get them where they want to be? We have lots of training and development programs available. In fact, 90 percent of our management positions are held by people who were promoted from within.

I’m very blessed to be the head cheerleader here, and I truly enjoy what I’m doing. I think the world of the people who are a part of this organization. If I can foster a culture where our team members say they love working here, I’ve done my job.

We’re a pest control company that puts people first! If you’re looking to build a career with people who care, look no further. Check out our careers page for open positions and more information.
