Just like any other service category, you should do your homework when it comes to selecting pest exterminators. Nowadays, it’s a little easier with all the social media tools and access to reviews on the internet, but a little more homework on your part will be beneficial.
1.) Get referrals from your family, friends and neighbors. Who do they use and would they recommend that pest control company?
2.) Be sure any exterminator you speak with is qualified and licensed. Don’t be afraid to ask to see the license when the technician comes to the door to provide service.
3.) A pest control company should conduct background checks on their employees. After all, you are inviting them into your home. Ask.
4.) The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) offers pest control companies to join an initiative called QualityPro. QualityPro is the “mark of excellence in pest control.” Specific standards need to be met before a company can be QualityPro. Some of those include background checks and insurance minimums. 5.) Speaking of insurance, find out if the exterminator service has liability insurance to cover the cost of damage to your home or furnishings. Ask to see the certificate.
6.) Be careful of buying on price alone. Service protocols, chemicals, and continued training of technicians are all important. You want the company to keep bugs out of your house. Buy appropriately.
7.) If an agreement or contract is involved, read it thoroughly and understand what it says.
8.) Some pest control companies offer guarantees. Understand what it means. What does it cover? Will you get your money back? A retreat?
