Over the years, all different kinds of bug movies have made their way to the big screen. Some make you laugh while others are terrifying. Here are some of our favorite bug movies that put a smile on our faces or make our skin crawl along with some memorable quotes.

Starship Troopers, 1997 – Big bugs have mankind on the run in this militaristic film set in the future.

Ace Levy: “Shoot a nuke down a bug hole, you got a lot of dead bugs.”

Sky Marshal Dienes: “We must meet this threat with our courage, our valor, indeed with our very lives to ensure that human civilization, not insect, dominates this galaxy now and always!”

Carl: “We’re in this war for the species, boys and girls. It’s simple numbers. They have more.”

Johnny Rico: “You’re some sort of big, fat, smart-bug, aren’t you?”

Arachnophobia, 1990 – A killer spider from South America hitches a ride to the U.S. with a scientist and wreaks havoc on a small town in California.

Sheriff Lloyd Parsons: “Excuse me, Professor? This is our town exterminator. Now, he believes he came across one of the offending spiders a couple of hours ago.”

Dr. James Atherton: “Might you have brought it with you?”

Delbert McClintock: “Actually, he’s probably still at the bottom of my shoe. You really can’t tell what it is anymore.”

A Bugs Life, 1998 – Disney and Pixar bring us a bug movie about an ant who tries to save his colony from greedy grasshoppers with the help of “warrior” bugs that are actually clumsy circus bugs.

Hopper: “It’s a bug-eat-bug world out there, princess. One of those Circle of Life kind of things.”

Flick: “Try not to look like a country bug. Blend. Blend in.”

P.T. Flea: “I’m serious! Word of mouth got around, the next day there was a line of flies outside the tent, went on forever. It must have been a foot long!”

Fly: “I only got 24 hours to live, and I ain’t gonna waste it here!”

Rosie: “And that’s how my twelfth husband died. So, now I’m a widow. I mean, I’ve always been a black widow, but now I’m a black widow…widow.”

Slim: “Say, how many roaches does it take to screw in a light bulb? Can’t tell—soon as the light goes on, they scatter!”
